Birth Moon Secrets
Most people know what their star sign is and have probably read a few horoscopes in the papers. Your star sign is actually called your Sun Sign, as it is the sign of the zodiac that the Sun was in at the time of your birth. A Horoscope is an astrological forecast based on a chart that shows the position of the planets at any given time. A chart cast at the time of your birth is called your natal chart and shows the position of all of the planets at the exact moment you were born. It is as unique to you as your fingerprint.
One of the criticisms of astrology is that it is not accurate. And when you work on the assumption that everyone is the sole result of their Sun sign, you aren’t wrong. Your Sun sign represents your ego, your will, your sense of vitality and your way of being in the world. But there are 9 other planets, plus asteroids and nodes which represent different aspects of your personality and life.
The Moon in your natal chart represents the personal self, your feelings and your unconscious. It shows you what you need to feel secure, how you relate to other people and your instinctual or habitual patterns. This is your inner nature and what you need. And this will be the focus of this week's blog.
Let’s start with a brief overview of the moon through the signs.
Moon in Aries.
These people race ahead emotionally, they are always going at full pelt. They can also be quick to come to emotional conclusions and can be a little emotionally reckless sometimes. If they are feeling uncertain it makes them quick problem solvers. If your moon is in Aries, try not to rush as if everything has a deadline. Instead, try to slow down so that you can decide what you want to do and proceed at your own comfortable pace.
Moon in Taurus.
These people need things like love, romance, and caring, as well as people who are steady and reliable. They need sensual physical things and may be good with money. If your moon is in Taurus then to feel safe you need stability. You may have a practical nature and be dependent on the material aspects of life. To avoid complications, you need to learn to accept change as part of your life.
Moon in Gemini.
These people need to talk things through, express themselves, write, and communicate. Not only do they need to get their message across, but they also need to listen to others. They like ideas and being around ideas people. If your moon is in Gemini then you will need changes and spontaneity. You will feel safe by thinking about and sharing your feelings with others. You will be talkative and able to speak skilfully and with ease.
Moon in Cancer.
These people need both nurturing and to nurture others. They like security in relationships and are often big eaters or like to feed others. If your moon is in Cancer then safety for you is your home, family and related activities such as cooking, gardening and DIY. People will be attracted to your home-loving character. You will be a good parent and a supportive friend because of your need to educate and protect others.
Moon in Leo.
These people want to be adored and need attention. They are wonderful warm and magnanimous people who wish to be recognised for that. They love glitz and glamour, and being in the spotlight. If your moon is in Leo then you feel safe when you can impress others and receive their praise and admiration. Sometimes you may find yourself at a loss when you are in the spotlight. You probably have a desire for money and social status, with a strong ability to get it.
Moon in Virgo.
These people are gentle with a mild-mannered energy, and like things to be in order and preferably naturally scented. They appreciate good, healthy food, nature and the Earth. If your moon is in Virgo then you may need to disconnect electronically. To feel safe you need order and clarity, even in emotions. When things feel chaotic and disorganised, you may need to organise them. You should try to be more tolerant and accepting of the imperfections of life.
Moon in Libra.
These people can experience a bit of emotional see-sawing. They don’t want to offend others and like things to be nice. They appreciate art and beauty and harmony. And most importantly, they need love and relationships. If your moon is in Libra then you will look for safety in a relationship, where you can make somebody happy, along with a rich social life. You will need balance and harmony. Just be wary of losing yourself in a relationship. Your needs matter too.
Moon in Scorpio.
These people want to learn about the depths of their emotional range. They are prone to jealousy and revenge and must find ways to detox from this and express any negative emotional entanglements rather than bottling things up. If your moon is in Scorpio then you will need to delve into your feelings as deeply as possible. This brings great vulnerability and means you never forget anything that was done to you. It's hard to force you to do anything.
Moon in Sagittarius.
These people are very breezy and lighthearted. They need adventure and travel. Sometimes they can be superficial and glide over emotional issues rather than investigating them a bit more. Their greatest need is to always be searching for something more. If your moon is in Sagittarius then to feel safe you need a philosophy or belief. A goal or mission will give your life meaning. You must choose what you want to believe in.
Moon in Capricorn.
These people either carve power or they’re emotionally tough. They may dream of creating or heading up a big organisation. They know how to control their emotions so they don’t get the better of them. They need structure in their personal and professional lives. If your moon is in Capricorn then you feel safe by being useful to society and from outside validation. You may have a tendency to underestimate yourself and what you actually want. If you are shy then you may also be resentful of the fact that people ignore you.
Moon in Aquarius.
These people are able to detach emotionally, if and when they want to. They don’t feel the same way other people do as they are emotionally pragmatic, can be rather cerebral and don’t dwell on things. If your moon is in Aquarius then your relationship with your emotions could be complicated. You will want to free yourself from negative emotions like fear, anger or jealousy while having to be tolerant when other people display such emotions.
Moon in Pisces.
These people need music, and poetry often soothes them. They dream and need to be allowed to do so, even if that makes them withdraw occasionally. They love feeling all their emotions and have the greatest sensitivity and perceptiveness of their surroundings. If your moon is in Pisces then you can experience feelings of insecurity, be passive and wait and see what happens in your life. If you engage in a creative or spiritual search, you can become an artist or a mystic with great imagination.
The phase that the moon was in at the time you were born can also tell you about yourself and your day-to-day activities. There are eight phases, and here is a quick rundown of what each one means.
New Moon.
These people tend to be idealistic and dreamy. They strive for perfection and want an ideal life. They need to find meaning in the world around them and see life and opportunities with a feeling of freshness. They can be naive with strong emotions and are open and enthusiastic at the start of projects.
Waxing Crescent Moon.
These people tend to be self-assertive with a desire to overcome challenges. They can get overwhelmed but are great at a variety of skills. While they enjoy the old traditional way of doing things, they also like to be innovative and can explore lots of different paths.
First Quarter Moon.
These people tend to enjoy a good challenge and build determination through overcoming obstacles. They enjoy social connections, are open to different perspectives and are very talkative and strong-willed.
Gibbous Moon.
These people tend to avoid conflict because they are very sensitive to the moods of others. They are multi-passionate, want to find their own path and will support something greater than themselves. They may find it difficult to be in crowds.
Full Moon.
These people are diplomatic and can see both sides of a situation. They can have very black-and-white thinking about themselves and struggle with their own energy levels and emotions. They are easily excitable, and love learning but will lose interest if they don’t feel deeply connected.
Disseminating Moon.
These people need variety and freedom. They are big-picture thinkers who can get overwhelmed, discouraged and caught up in being busy. When they focus on things that are important to them, they excel at understanding complex ideas and taking action on their knowledge. These people are lifelong learners.
Third Quarter Moon.
These people are future-focused, good at resolving conflict and need to be authentic. They may struggle with inflexibility or stubbornness, but they love to tear down outdated systems and structures as they are revolutionaries. They thrive when working on something bigger than themselves.
Balsamic Moon.
These people will place a high importance on their time and what they choose to focus on. They will do things that feel good to them and be resistant to doing things that don’t. They may also take on responsibilities that are not theirs and have trouble asking for help.
If you want to gain a bit more insight into what motivates you and some challenges you may face, then you will need to know your birth moon. You can find this out yourself on Astro-Seek (other websites are available, this is just my personal favourite). After you have entered your birth details here, scroll down to find your birth moon. If you continue to scroll down then you will also find the phase the moon was in when you were born. Make a note of those two things and then come back and read the information for your sign and phase.
You can also use your birth moon to find your most productive times. When the moon is in the same sign and phase as when you were born, is going to be when you feel the most energised. When the moon is a sign of the same element as your birth moon, and the same phase as when you were born, you will also feel energised. When the moon is in the same element as your moon sign, you will feel a boost, and also when the moon is in your birth moon sign. When the moon is in the same phase as when you were born will also be productive days for you, and also when the moon is in your Sun Sign.
