New Moon in Sagittarius
On Sunday (1st December) at 6.21 am (GMT) we have the first New Moon of the month in adventurous Sagittarius. Take a moment to step back and look at your bigger vision for your life. What dreams or goals no longer align with that? Where do you see yourself in six months? How will you get there? This is a New Moon to dream big and take risks, to grow and learn, to find your place in the world.
This week’s blog will look at the energy around this New Moon, how you can work with it, and what this New Moon means for you!!
New Moons mark the start of a new lunar cycle. This is a time to set our intentions for the next 4 weeks, which will help us to achieve our goals. Generally, anything started under a New Moon should be completed by the Full Moon in the same sign. This gives us a 6-month container to work with. (The Full Moon in Sagittarius is on the 11th of June 2025) When making New Moon Wishes, you can go as big or as small as you like. If you make a big wish, you can break it down into smaller, manageable goals. This allows you to track your progress as we move through each lunar cycle.
Not all New Moon’s are the same. They are flavoured by the zodiac sign that the Moon is in at the time and influenced by the other planets. A New Moon is always in the same sign as the Sun, giving us a double dose of the sign's energy to work with. This is why people work with this energy to set their goals.
Sagittarius is one of the four mutable signs, which bridge the gap between the start of the seasons (cardinal signs) and the determined (fixed) signs. These are the most flexible and open-minded signs, and they are known for being able to adapt to change and navigate life. Sagittarius has themes around higher learning, philosophy and travel, making it the ideal New Moon to set intentions around broadening your horizons, learning new things and visiting new places. Sagittarius is ready to go out into the world, learn more about it and find their place in it.
As one of the three Fire element signs, Sagittarius is adventurous, cheerful, hopeful, enthusiastic and optimistic. The fire signs are full of life, creative and passionate. This can sometimes make Sagittarius reckless, restless and impatient. This is the most positive sign of the zodiac, they see everything as an adventure and a chance to learn and grow. This New Moon is a good time to finally take the plunge on something you have been putting off, set the intention to be bolder, and inject some more fun into your life.
When setting your Sagittarius New Moon intentions, we can use the themes and energy of this sign to help us. Here are some questions you can ask yourself to get the most from this energy.
What are my intentions for this lunar cycle?
How can I develop my spiritual practice?
Where do I need to pay more attention to detail?
How can I reignite my enthusiasm?
Where do I need to be more sensitive?
What will give me more physical energy?
There are also some practical ways to work with this New Moon. With Christmas approaching, this is a good time to look at your spending habits and organise a get-together with friends. This can be a wonderful time of year to celebrate with those closest to you, just be mindful of not giving too much, you don’t want to end up in a feeling of lack.
This is a great time to go on an adventure and visit somewhere new. Sagittarius loves to travel, explore and try new things. You might even want to enrol in a new course of study. This would also be a good time to implement some structure in your life, especially if you feel like it is lacking and you don’t know how you will get everything done before Christmas.
This New Moon is receiving a nice boost from Mars, the planet of drive and determination, in Leo, another enthusiastic fire sign. With Mars in Leo, we are already feeling more self-confident and wanting to take a direct route to achieve our goals. And when Mars starts whispering encouragement to the Moon, it's a good time to get things done. Any projects which are nearly done can be finished under this New Moon.
Let’s not forget that Mars is also the planet associated with sex, and while in Leo it can increase our sex drive and passion for life. If you have been looking for a time to spice things up in the bedroom, then this New Moon is that time!!
We are also getting some encouragement from Jupiter, known as the lucky planet, over in curious Gemini. Jupiter is a planet of expansion, growth and abundance. With great risk, comes great reward, something Sagittarius ( a risk-taking fire sign knows all about).
It is worth noting that Jupiter is currently moving backwards in Gemini, so we have a slowing down of the energy. Gemini is the sign of communication, so this is a period of reflection on the way we talk to other people, how we listen and how we learn. Jupiter in Gemini is asking questions and the Sagittarius New Moon is eager for the answers.
This will be a lucky New Moon where we can dream big, take risks and find that things are more likely to come to fruition. Setting intentions around travel, study or spiritual development are ideal with the energies at play.
Of course, it’s not all rainbows and butterflies, we have Saturn bringing us back down to Earth. While Jupiter is a planet of expansion, Saturn is a planet that contracts and restricts. This is the planet of karma, or life lessons, and is currently travelling through dreamy and mystical Pisces. Saturn is about structure and rules, while Pisces prefers to daydream and go with the flow. If you have any dreams that don’t feel achievable to you anymore, then Saturn is coming along to clear them out.
You may feel lonely, depressed or pessimistic thanks to Saturn, even though Sagittarius is optimistic, hopeful and cheerful. Sagittarius also likes to look at the bigger picture, and Saturn is telling us to set some serious long-term goals under this New Moon. This is a good time to knuckle down on a significant work project.
With Mars pushing us to go, Jupiter encouraging us to take risks and Saturn recommending we buckle down and get to work, this New Moon looks like a great time to set some big, long-term goals that will allow us to grow, learn and challenge ourselves.
It’s also worth noting that Mercury is now in Retrograde in Sagittarius. This is a great time for taking a more positive view of life, having more fun and making travel plans. Maybe there is a new course of study you can research or a new language you want to learn. Whatever it is, this is a time for reviewing your life, researching where you want to go next and reconnecting with the things that bring you joy. (You can read more here.)
