The Fools Journey Part 4

Over the past three weeks, we have followed the Fool’s journey through the Major Arcana. The first part of our journey took us up to The Chariot, we then travelled from Strength to Death, and finally from Temperance to The Star. The week we will finish our journey.

The second celestial body represented after The Star is The Moon, which is card XVIII. In the Alice in Wonderland deck we see the Walrus and the Carpenter walking with the oysters. In the book, it is Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee who tell Alice the story of how they took the Oysters on a walk and then ate them. Alice decides that the Walrus is the worst of the two because he ate the most. On hearing more of the story, she changes her mind and declares the Carpenter as the worst, then the Walrus and so on. The point is that unless we have ALL the facts we are unable to make an informed decision.

Remember that the Moon has no light of her own, she merely reflects the light from the Sun. This card is a reminder that we are often uncertain, especially when we don’t have all the facts. The Moon is also strongly connected to our emotions and intuition. When this card appears in a reading it can be a sign that you are not listening to your intuition or that you are not seeing everything. Pay close attention to what is going on around you, what are you missing?

The third celestial body is card XIX, The Sun. In the Wonderland deck, we see Alice sitting with both the Red Queen and the White Queen surrounded by sunflowers. Both of these Queens have tested, challenged and guided Alice throughout her adventures in Wonderland and now she sits between them, a Queen herself. The two Queens had travelled the path before and knew what Alice faced, yet it was Alice herself who did what was needed to become a Queen herself. This is a great reminder and celebration of self.

So often in life, we are scared to be ourselves, scared of what other people may think. This card encourages us to be ourselves and to let our true nature shine. It is a reminder that you can achieve anything you want and that only you stand in your way. This is a very positive card to appear in a reading and always points to good things coming.

Card XX is Judgement. In the Alice deck, it is represented by the White Rabbit in the clouds blowing his trumpet while the Red Queens Card Guards turn from cards to real people. In the story, the Card Guards were always alive, they were just flat and made from cards. In this image, they are becoming the people they were all along. At the end of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, the White Rabbit calls Alice to the stand as a witness. This is the end of the story where Alice decides she has had enough of all of the nonsense and soon wakes up. She has learned all that she needs to learn and is waking up to be the person she was always meant to be.

In relation to the Fool’s journey, we are reaching the end when we see the Judgement card. It is time to make a decision about the future based on all that has been learned. In a reading, this card can indicate second chances. It’s a time to step into a new chapter of your life with everything you have recently learned. It could be a significant life change or a calling that you can’t ignore.

The final card is The World, card XXI. In this deck, we see Alice in the middle wearing her crown. The chaos she experienced in Wonderland is represented by the symbols for the four card suits in the corners, and the checkerboard background from the chess game in Through The Looking Glass. Alice was our hero in the Wonderland books as she went on a journey of self-discovery, full of curiosity and wonder. She faced many issues and challenges along the way, often wondering who she was and how she could still be Alice when she had gone through so many changes.

As the final card in Major Arcana, this is the end of the Fool’s journey. This card represents endings and achieving your goals. This is the end of Alice’s adventure, the end of the Fool’s journey and the close of a chapter. What will you do next?

I hope you have enjoyed the Fool’s journey and can see how the people and events in your life are reflected by the cards in the Major Arcanca.
