The Void Of Course Moon
One of the questions I get asked a lot is what is a void moon and what does it mean? So on this week's blog, I will answer that question.
There are three different definitions of a Void Of Course Moon
The Moon doesn’t make any aspects with any planet until she moves into the next sign of the zodiac.
The Moon doesn’t make an exact aspect with any planet within the next 30 degrees of her travels.
The Moon is not making an exact aspect within a 10° orb.
To understand what a Void Moon is, you need to understand what an aspect is. This is an astrology term that refers to the angels that the planets make to each other as they move around the zodiac. I refer to this as talking to each other to make it easier to understand.
The zodiac is a 360° wheel or map of the sky. There are four main aspects that the planets make with each other.
A conjunction is when two planets are in the same place at the same time, so 0° apart
A sextile is when two planets are 60° apart
A square is when two planets are 90° apart
A trine is when two planets are 120° apart
An opposition is when two planets are 180° apart
The first definition is the most commonly used. So when the Moon has made her last aspect with another planet in the sign she is currently in, she won’t make another aspect to another planet until she moves into the next sign. When the Moon isn’t talking to any of the other planets, she is Void Of Course.
The amount of time that the Moon will be Void varies greatly. Sometimes it can be a few minutes. Sometimes it will last for a few hours. Occasionally, it can last for a day. As the Moon spends around two and a half days in each sign, they are a frequent occurrence.
The next question, is how do I work with the energy of a Void Of Course Moon?
The short answer is, you don’t. It is said that anything started during a Void Of Course Moon will bear no fruit. So don’t start a new business, plan a wedding or go on any first dates!! This time is better suited to just “being”. Meditate, practice yoga, go for a walk or even take a nap.
In astrology, the Moon rules our emotions. The Moon in your birth chart is about your inner nature and tells us what we need. It reflects our feelings, unconscious mind, and instincts. So when the Moon stops talking to the other planets, it makes sense for us to turn inwards and make sure that our emotional needs are being met. Especially if you are the sort of person who always puts everyone else’s needs before your own. During these quiet periods, we can experience brain fog and tiredness, depending on how deeply you feel the Moon’s influence. Personally, when the Moon is void in the morning, I struggle to get out of bed.
When the Moon is void for only a short period of time, it can be great to take a break. To linger over your cup of coffee, go for a walk or meditate, depending on the time of day. When the Moon is void for longer periods, it can become impractical to take a break. In these cases, I would strongly advise against starting anything new or making any big or important decisions. You can research, brainstorm ideas, or just continue with work that you have previously started. It really all depends on how you feel, how strongly the Moon affects you, and what commitments you have.
I like to think of the Void Moon as a gift from the universe to take a break. We are often so busy and focused on getting stuff done that we forget to take a break. This is the Moon reminding us that we can’t be on the go all the time and that sometimes we just need to rest. This is our chill period where do our normal routine stuff and throw in some extra self-care activities.
There are several ways you can track the Moon. I highly recommend the app iLuna which will tell you the sign the Moon is in and give you the current or next Void times. Time Passages is an astrology app that tells you the sign the Sun and Moon are in, the current Moon Phase, if the Moon is void and also when Mercury is retrograde. You can also get this information from an astrology website or from following me on social media!! I post to my Instagram stories, Facebook group and on LinkedIn every weekday morning to tell you about the energy of the Moon for the day, and if you download my free guide to Manifesting With TheMoon (click the button below) then you will also receive my Weekly Moon Energies Email on a Sunday telling you all about the week ahead and any Void Moon’s to watch out for.
I hope you have found this week's blog post helpful, any questions, just ask!! I am happy to help.
